Sustainability
At Teck, the pursuit of sustainability is central to the core values that drive our approach to business. Our success depends on our ability to help establish healthy communities and safe environments for our workers in jurisdictions where good systems of governance and social infrastructure exist or can be built as a result of our presence. Over our long history, we have learned that our relationship with people, communities and society is one of mutual support or interdependence. Indeed, our success is clearly tied to the contributions we make to achieve sustainability, wherever we operate.
Our sustainability strategy focuses on five material areas to help drive our sustainability performance: safety and health; the state of the global economy and its impact on Teck and its stakeholders; environmental management issues for our company and the industry; community engagement and development; and, responsible stewardship of our products in society. Through directing our effort in these areas as outlined in the goals and progress table, we are dedicated to maintaining our license to operate and meeting our sustainability challenges.
